150th Celebration

Tradition Meets Tomorrow

The University of Northern Iowa is preparing for its sesquicentennial celebration - commemorating 150 years of transformation and impact

From our beginnings as a Soldiers’ Orphan Home to the Iowa State Normal School, becoming the Iowa State Teachers College, beginning a storied legacy of preparing future educators, the State College of Iowa, and finally becoming the University of Northern Iowa.

A proud past, a bold future: 150 years in the making!

Our Legacy Continues

Students First Since 1876

Starting in 2025 and culminating in 2026, we’ll honor our legacy and dedication to students, while celebrating the past, present and future.

This milestone reaches beyond the boundaries of our campus, reflecting UNI’s commitment to preparing tomorrow’s leaders and innovating programs that meet the needs of Iowa, the nation and the world.
